Face Symmetry Test

A face symmetry test measures how closely left and right facial landmarks mirror each other, reported as named differences in real units — not an attractiveness score.

  • Five left–right differences, each in real units beside its typical range
  • The tilt of your eye, brow, mouth and jaw lines, in degrees
  • No overall score and no rating: measurements only

Quick answer

Left and right, measured. Not scored.

How it works

  1. Choose a photo

Use a front-facing photo, head level, looking straight at the camera, with a neutral expression.

  2. We find your landmarks

Matching points on the left and right of your face are located in your browser.

  3. We measure

The differences in eye height and width, and the tilt of your nose line, mouth and jaw, are measured.

  4. You get your measurements

Each difference is shown beside the range that is typical, with styling notes for what was measured.

How we handle your photo

What happens from the moment you choose a photo:

Step 01
Prepared in your browser

Your photo is resized and its location and camera metadata removed before anything is sent.

Step 02
Landmarks found on your device

Face landmarks are located in your browser. If your browser can't, they are found on our server instead, by our own model or Amazon Rekognition.

Step 03
Checked, then discarded

The photo is sent once over an encrypted connection to check lighting and sharpness, and for colour tools to sample your skin. It is held in memory for that request and never written to disk or a database.

Step 04
What we keep

The measurements from your read, saved to your profile, which works without an account. Export or delete them any time.

Step 05
Not used for training

Your photo is never used to train models. We don't keep it, so it can't be.

Verification & Methodology

How we check our method

FaceAuraAI publishes its method, a rule check anyone can re-run and its bias notes — not scan totals or accuracy percentages. Each result carries a confidence label based on that photo's quality and how clear-cut the result was.

Current status: No production aggregate is published yet. Internal regression tests are engineering checks, not population statistics.

Stated selection biases

  • Selfie uploaders who choose to use FaceAuraAI tools
  • Front-facing photos with sufficient landmark confidence
  • Landmarks found in the browser where it can, on the server where it can't
  • English-first marketing traffic until locale depth catches up
  • No age, region, or ethnicity stratification unless explicitly sampled and labeled

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the face symmetry test free?

Yes. Guests get 2 free reads a day, and a free account gets 5 a month. The limit is checked before you choose a photo, so you never upload and then hit a paywall.

Is a perfectly symmetrical face normal?

No. Almost every face has small differences between its left and right sides. The typical ranges show how large those differences usually are; they are a reference, not a target.

Does the test rate my face?

No. A single number would rate your face, which we don't do. You get each measured difference in real units, beside the range that is typical.

Why does my head position matter so much?

A slight head tilt or turn moves every landmark on one side, which reads as asymmetry that isn't in your face. Keep your head level and look straight at the camera.

Do you store my photo?

No. Your photo is used for this one read and then discarded; it is never written to disk or a database. What we keep are the measurements, saved to your profile, which you can export or delete at any time.

How reliable is the result?

Every result comes with a confidence label based on the quality of your photo: lighting, sharpness, head angle and how many landmarks were measured directly. We don't publish a single accuracy percentage, because it would depend on photos we haven't seen. A straight-on photo in even light gives the most reliable read.
